When COVID hit, our wonderful Woudestein Campus at the Erasmus University Rotterdam was left deserted. A university-wide survey showed that students started to feel lonelier and missed meeting each other on campus. ErasmusX, a radical innovation unit within the university, took action and created a virtual version of the campus in Minecraft. This way, students could meet each other on campus again, but in a COVID-friendly way. This didn’t go unnoticed, the project was rewarded with the Best in Class Award 2021.
